Ever since I found out how to take screen shots with VLC, I’ve been building myself a nice collection of anime pics. There are some truly beautiful visuals to be seen in Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz, Rurouni Kenshin, and Tegami Bachi.

I entered these in an online contest recently and though i didn’t win, it was a valuable learning experience.

The top image is my first attempt. The animals are supposed in a cafeteria to be laughing at a joke, but the judge thought it looked too much like a family at a dinner table. So I reworked it so as to increase the impact.

I don’t feel too bad about not getting the judge’s pick, and there are still some things I would do to tweak it further, but at least the judge did say that he liked my work. And that in itself is reassuring to me as an artist. I can be an illustrator. But now I must prove it time and again.
